Presbyterian Women is a vital part of Chapel Lane with its service to the church and gives an opportunity for women to participate in study, mission, and fellowship. It is important that all women of the church know that all Presbyterian Women events are open for everyone to participate. There is no membership required.
Presbyterian Women’s Purpose:
Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves
- to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study
- to support the mission of the church worldwide
- to work for justice and peace
- to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God’s kingdom
Presbyterian Women Bible Studies:
The Bible Study’s that Presbyterian Women offe is a very important opportunity for those women who participate. There is a Monday Evening Circle, which meets on the 1st Monday of the month, and an Afternoon Circle, which meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Depending on the month, we can have from 6 – 12 women attending in each of the two Circles. We are always open to establishing another Circle at a different time.
Mission Focus:
Presbyterian Women also offers the women of Chapel Lane the opportunity to serve the community with the making and distribution of the quilts that are made in the Quilting Bee Circle. This has been a very worthwhile mission project of Presbyterian Women of Chapel Lane.
Responsibilities of Presbyterian Women:
- A monthly coffee hour after the Sunday Morning Worship service.
- Providing meals for those who are encountering illness and during times of bereavement.
- Sending of greeting cards to show the church’s concerns.
- Organizing and maintaining the kitchen.
- Offering a time of fellowship 4 times a year, usually, including a meal followed by a program of interest to all women of Chapel Lane.
There have been times that a Women’s Retreat has been planned. The last one was last year where we had 12 women attend. 2006 is the year for the National Triennium of Presbyterian Women. It depends on the interest of the women whether we plan our own retreat or suggest participating in the national event.
Since we are a connectional church, we do have opportunities in which to participate in the larger church: two times a year with the Lake Huron Presbytery, One time each year with the Synod of the Covenant, and every 3rd year the National Triennium meets in Louisville, KY.
Through all of the events of Presbyterian Women, there is a wonderful opportunity for women to become acquainted, study, show your love and concern, and have fellowship with one another.
Circle Information:
The 2005-2006 Horizon Bible Study is "For Everything, A Season: A Study of the Liturgical Calendar". The first lesson of this study gives a brief overview of time and how we measure time. Lesson Two examines the cycles and seasons of life and nature, and introduces us to the liturgical seasons and the lectionary. The remaining lessons in the study are based on the liturgical seasons as listed in the Directory for Worship .The author leads us to search and examine the cycles and seasons of nature, life, and the church year so we may be renewed in awe at the wonderful work that God has done – and continues to do – in our lives and in the world.
