Local Locally the Chapel Lane deacons are the connecting link to many local agencies and programs. A few of those programs are: Community “Sharing Tree” Project The Sharing Tree Project is coordinated by the Midland County Voluntary Action Center (VAC). It provides Christmas gifts for those in our community who otherwise would not have much of a Christmas. The VAC attaches gift requests and suggested values to colorful tags, which are then used to decorate Christmas trees at many Midland-area businesses, churches, and civic groups. Chapel Lane has sponsored a tree for many years and several Chapel Lane members contribute time to help sort and deliver the gifts. Emergency Food Pantry Network Through Chapel Lane, members donate food and money to the Memorial Presbyterian location of the Midland County Emergency Food Pantry Network. The Food Pantry tries to meet short-term needs for basic food items and other supplies among low-income families in Midland County. Food items are delivered to the Food Pantry monthly by a member of the deacons. Health Ministry at Chapel Lane The health ministry at Chapel Lane is under the direction of the deacons. This ministry includes our parish nurses who do blood pressure screening on a monthly basis. It also covers our Medical Lending Library. Habitat for Humanity Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. HFHI seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. Chapel Lane contributes financially to Habitat and, when possible, puts together crews to participate in local “builds”. Midland Area Homes Midland Area Homes (MAH) is a nonprofit private corporation whose purpose is to assist needy Midland Area residents in improving their quality of life by providing help that cannot be obtained elsewhere. This is accomplished with the support of churches, government, communities, and volunteers. Their mission involves helping people help themselves to improve their housing and living conditions. Chapel Lane supports this agency with budgeted money, Share Fair funds and through volunteering for furniture pick ups. A member of the deacons serves on the fundraising committee an one or two deacons usually serve on the board of MAH. |
