David is a native of Philadelphia, PA. His sisters and their families, along with his parents still reside in southeastern Pennsylvania. David is married to Nancy and together they have three mostly grown children: Adam, Micah, and Molly. Prior to coming to Midland in 1996, David and Nancy (who is also an ordained Presbyterian Minister) co-pastored a New Church Development in Fargo, ND. David holds a Masters of Divinity degree from Princeton Seminary and was ordained in 1987. He has also received degrees in music from the University of Maryland and The College of Wooster, OH. Nancy is currently an associate pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church here in Midland. Both she and David continue to pursue their musical interests through private voice teaching and performing.

Karen Graef - Music Director

Karen Graef has been the Music Director at Chapel Lane since 1997 and she currently directs our four vocal choirs and our four handbell choirs. Karen has an organ performance degree from Central Michigan University and a Masters of Music Degree in Choral Performance from Central Michigan University. Karen is a Music Professor at Delta College and also teaches piano in her home studio. Karen and her husband have resided in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan since 1987 after relocating from Houston, Texas.

Joyce is a native of Houston, Texas, born Feb. 20, 1947, one of seven girls and two boys. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Howard University in 1969 majoring in Chemistry. Joyce was employed by AT&T in New York and Cincinnati as a programmer and manager. After retiring in 1998 after 29 years of service, she worked as a project manager for Toyota, as a technical writer for an internet startup company and as an accountant for First Student, Inc. Joyce brought her broad experience to serve Chapel Lane as our Office Administrator in August of 2003.

Joyce is a single mother of two; a college-age son who lives in Ohio and a daughter who lives with Joyce (along with four grandsons!) and she has two sisters who each live on her street! Joyce loves her close-knit family and thinks Midland is a great place to raise a family. She enjoys Bible study, sewing, crocheting and traveling; in fact Joyce has visited 33 of the 50 United States as well as 16 foreign countries.

Joyce’s life and well-being is sustained by the knowledge that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13.”

Chrissy Westbury never quite knows what to say when people ask her where she grew up. She has moved 18 times! Although born in Michigan, she considers Americus, Georgia to be the town in which she grew up. Her parents both worked for Habitat for Humanity International. The family later moved to Traverse City, MI (by way of West Palm Beach, FL and Rockford, MI) where Chrissy and her brother Aaron both graduated from high school. She attended Central Michigan University and graduated in 2001. Chrissy has lived in Midland, with her husband Dirk since August of 2001. Dirk and Chrissy have two beautiful children, Daphne, born in April 2004 and Ryan, who joined the family in July 2007. Chrissy enjoys theatre, music, literature, and art and involves herself in the arts community whenever possible! She and Dirk both love to cook and play cards and Scrabble.
